ABOUT MY CEREMONIES

Here is the structure I usually follow:

First, after a warm welcome to all, comes the greeting to family, friends, and bridal party – the special people in your lives, people who have been there for you. In my vision, these folks form the important circle of love that nurtures and sustains you.

Secondly, I create a sweet word picture of the two of you. I call this your love story. In this part of your ceremony I share your history as a couple. When and where you met, the first blush of excitement and knowingness. I trace the path you followed, leading to your altar – the one spot on earth where you both will stand and pledge your complete commitment to each other forever. I share the sweet details of the proposal and acceptance. I share with your gathering the things you like, love and respect about each other, and mention some of the things you like to do, together, for fun.

To complete your love story I ask you both to tell each other why you believe you are the “right” person for your partner to marry. My experience is that responses to this question touch the heart in profound ways!

The third of four parts I call “The Minister’s Message.” Here I share some thoughts about love, commitment, respect, and partnership: the spiritual dimension to every love story.

Finally come the vows, the ring exchange, the pronouncement as husband and wife and the introduction the way you, as a couple, want to be known.

So there you have it. A four-part ceremony.

Of course you are invited also to include scripture readings, a short spiritual message, love poems, Unity Candles, Unity Roses, A wine toast, blending of sands, and other things. All of these I regard as options and personal choices.

The typical ceremony length is approximately 20 minutes.
